Stepwise.

Privacy policy

What Stepwise collects, what it doesn't, how we use Google Analytics, and the choices you have. Plain language, no dark patterns.

Stepwise is a static information site. We collect as little as possible and never sell personal data. This policy explains what happens when you read the site, sign up for updates, or follow one of our outbound links. Last reviewed October 9, 2026.

What we collect

If you use our email signup, we store the address you give us solely to send occasional updates, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We also use Google Analytics to see which guides are useful; the section below explains exactly what it records and how to turn it off. We do not ask for, want, or store any wallet keys, seed phrases, exchange logins or financial account details — never send those to us or anyone else.

Google Analytics and cookies

Stepwise uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd. It tells us which pages were viewed, which site sent the visitor, roughly where they were (city or country, no finer), what kind of device and browser they used, and the timing of the session. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation are all turned off on our account: the data is never used for advertising and never sold.

Analytics relies on two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, which can last up to two years. They are only set after analytics has been allowed.

How you are asked depends on where you are. Visitors in Europe — the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, judged by the time zone your device reports — see a banner first, and nothing goes to Google unless they click Accept. Everywhere else analytics starts switched on, and you can turn it off whenever you like. A browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal is treated as having opted out. We remember your answer in your browser's local storage, under the key analytics-consent, rather than in a cookie.

To revisit your answer, open Cookie settings and the banner comes back. Google's own privacy policy covers what it does with the data, and Google's opt-out browser add-on blocks Google Analytics across all sites.

When you click an outbound affiliate link, the destination provider and its affiliate network may set cookies or record that the visit came from us, so any commission is attributed correctly. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies, not ours. See our affiliate disclosure for how those links work.

Your choices

You can browse the site without signing up, switch analytics off through the cookie settings link above, unsubscribe from emails with one click, and block cookies in your browser. If you would like us to delete an email address we hold for you, email [email protected] and we will remove it.
